How did my street vote in 2015 and how did it respond to the SAPC Petition in 2018?

  

There’s a Council report showing the number of properties consulted, the number that voted and those in favour of and against a scheme in 2015.

  • 1627 responses were received giving a response rate of 47.4%.

  • Overall 53.3% were in favour of residents parking scheme and 46.7% against.

  • 64.2% were in favour of a Monday to Sunday 9am to 8pm scheme and 19.5% in favour of a Monday to Friday 9am to 8pm scheme.

  • 16.3% were in favour of another type of scheme.

Since 2015, Zones G, F & F extension have been designated in parts of the area consulted at that time. The current Surrenden Area is significant smaller. It now contains 1002 dwellings.

If the 2015 Council data for the current Surrenden Area is reviewed, the following information can be seen street by street. (Please note that this data does not take account of the expansion of the Campaign area into 'the Friars'.)

Taking these results overall, the summary position is as follows:

  • In 2015, a majority of the eligible households in the then Surrenden Area that responded did vote in favour of a parking scheme in the Council's consultation.

  • However, the response rate was low, with positive responses from just over a quarter of eligible households.

  • In 2018, the response rate to the SAPC petition was much higher. Support levels were much higher too, with 54.79% of all households - a clear absolute majority - in favour of a scheme.

New Streets in 2020

The Council has included some new streets and areas in the 2020 consultation that were not consulted in 2015 or included in the SAPC research, petition and opinion polling in 2018. These are:

  1. Surrenden Park, surrounded by the Friars area;

  2. Ditchling Road frontage and Beacon Close;

  3. Preston Manor, the Tennis Club site, Preston Cricket Ground and the Velodrome; and

  4. Varndean VIth Form College Campus.
